TEMPLE TERRACE, FL — The second suspect in a Wednesday armed home invasion that left a Temple Terrace man dead has been arrested.
Temple Terrace Police announced the arrest of Leroy Monsalvatge, 24, of Tampa on Friday morning. According to the agency, Monsalvatge and Parish Devante Jordan, 24, broke into a home in the 11500 block of Summit West Boulevard around 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28.
Once the two men were inside the apartment, police say a struggle with resident Mackelle Lemon Burnett, 41, broke out. During the struggle, Burnett and Jordan were shot.
Burnett was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries after police were notified of the shooting. He died later, the agency wrote in an email to media.
Jordan’s arrest was announced Thursday. Police say he and Monsalvatge fled the scene in a white Kia. Jordan, however, was charged in Burnett’s death after he showed up at St. Joseph’s Hospital for treatment of his injuries. He faces first-degree murder charges.
Monsalvatge was arrested Thursday at Florida Hospital in Tampa, police say. He was there receiving treatment for an unrelated illness.
Monsalvatge was charged with first-degree murder with a firearm, attempted armed robbery with a firearm causing death, armed burglary and felon in possession of a firearm. He was being held without bond Friday morning, according to Hillsborough County Jail records.
